Places of Interest

Major cities around the world offer a range of attractions and are also famous for celebrations and events all year round. Check out what these cities have to offer:

Hong Kong

Hong Kong

To experience a smorgasbord of events ranging from local festivals to world-class arts and sports events, head to Hong Kong, the Events Capital of Asia. Choose from international concerts, theatres and dance performances by famous artists and local Canto-pop singers. And don't forget the Hong Kong Disneyland. Mickey Mouse will welcome you to the happiest place on Earth with exclusively-designed attractions. Take a magical tour through the four themed lands: Main Street U.S.A., Fantasyland, Adventureland and Tomorrowland. With an array of restaurants and specialty stores, plus your favourite Disney characters, Hong Kong Disneyland is the perfect destination for the whole family.

Macau

Macau

For thrill-seekers, the world's highest bungee jump is available at Macau Tower. Experience free fall at a speed of up to 200km/h as you plunge from a 233m high platform. Challengers will experience a 4-5 second free fall before stretching the 50 meter bungee cord nearly four times its unloaded length, and rebounding at approximately 30 meters above the ground. Experience a rush like never before.

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is well known for its diverse cuisine, shopping and nightlife. From 2nd April to 4th April, head out of town to catch the F1 action at one of the most high-tech circuits in the world. With extreme hot and wet weather conditions at the Sepang International Circuit, the skills of the world's finest drivers will be tested to the limit. If it's good food, sunshine and sea that you're after, head up north to the Penang Island. Indulge in an exotic mix of delicious cuisine like the famous Penang Char Koay Teow and much more.

Singapore

Singapore

The Singapore Formula 1 Night Race is the talk of the town. The official name of the event will be the FORMULA 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix, and it's happening from the 24th September to 26th September 2010. The prospect of seeing the cars roar along Esplanade Drive, the sharpest corner at any race track in the world today, is an exciting one. Of course, there's the star-studded F1 Rocks, which have seen the likes of Beyonce and Lindsay Lohan making an appearance. Don't miss this one!

Bangkok

Bangkok

If you visit Bangkok from 13th April to 15th April, brace yourself for a thorough soaking as young and old take to the streets to celebrate Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year. Also known as the 'Water Festival', this custom of water throwing holds important religious significance, but has also turned into great fun over the years. And while you are there, don't forget to visit the Grand Palace and the Chatuchak market.

London

London

The Notting Hill Carnival has been taking place in London, on the last weekend of August, every year since 1964. This great festival began from the energies of Black immigrants from the Caribbean, particularly Trinidad, and from the locals who dreamt of creating a festival to bring together the people of Notting Hill. Today, it is a symbol of those facing racism, lack of working opportunities, and poor housing conditions resulting in a general suppression of good self-esteem. It's a great street party not to be missed. While in London, visit the Madame Tussaud's and the London Eye, the 2 must-visit tourist spots.

Australia

Australia

When you think of Sydney, you think of the iconic Sydney Opera House. This performing arts centre on Bennelong Point hosts a variety of shows. Even if you don't get a chance to catch a show, you must pay it a visit to revel in the award winning architecture. If you're there in June, catch the Sydney Film Festival which is one of the longest running events of its kind in the world. The festival runs for two weeks each year in June and showcases Australian, international and alternative films.

No matter where you are in the world, Chinatown seems to be the place to celebrate it. So, for now, here's wishing you a Happy Chinese New Year. Gong Xi Fa Cai! Or Kong Hei Fat Choi, wherever you may be!
